MacMillan Places 2nd at Alexandria

July 24th, 2004

Competing against three other bands, the MacMillan Pipe Band took second place honors July 24 at the Virginia Scottish Games in Alexandria; first place went to the Grandfather Mountain pipe band, who also won Best Drum Corps.

Corrections: This site erroneously reported that Ulster Scottish took first. The official Grade 3 results were:
- 1st: Grandfather Mountain
- 2nd: MacMillan
- 3rd: Ulster Scottish
- 4th: North Carolina State

Best Drum Corps also went to Grandfather Mountain. MacMillan was incorrectly declared the winner at the Games.

We apologize for any confusion.

Scottish Festival 36

April 30th, 2004

The MacMillan Pipe Band is among many acts performing tomorrow at the 36th Annual National Capital Area Scottish Festival (NCASF). This marks MacMillan’s fourth appearance at the NCASF.

The NCASF is the annual fundraiser for the Rockville High School Pipe Band (RHSPB). All NCASF performers donate their time and talents so the RHSPB can retain all proceeds from the show.

RHSPB receives relatively little funding from the school system, and the NCASF proceeds help pay for instructors, building usage costs and other expenses. Band members are provided instruction free of charge. Many of MacMillan’s members are RHSPB (or Peary Hgh School Pipe Band before 1984) alumni.

The show will culminate in the traditional massed bands finale; RHSPB, MacMillan, and the City of Washington Pipe Bands will perform together.

NCASF is emceed once again by Ed Kitlowski. Other performers include the Scottish Country Dance Society of Washington; the Columbia School of Highland Dance, featuring accompanyment by Jason Barth; and Fynesound, making their first festival appearance.

The show starts at 5:00 p.m. at the Northwood Center, 919 University Boulevard West, in Silver Spring. Scottish foods and crafts are available starting at 3:30 p.m. For further info, visit the NCASF site.
